  • Why contribute your time, talents, and money? A message from Gail Phares: "We know that waging war is much easier than making peace. Since our beginnings in 1982, our staff and volunteers have been doing the courageous work of transforming both people and policies away from war and toward peace. I have seen first-hand the impact of your support for our work. Over the past eight months of 2004, I have visited Colombia. I listened to the stories of those displaced by US support for Plan Colombia, heard from small farmers and union leaders in Mexico about the damaging impact of free trade models on entire families and communities. Our brothers and sisters in Latin America know just how hard it us.
  • Perhaps you have heard similar stories on your own Witness for Peace trips to Latin America over the last few years; or maybe have come to know their realities through the speakers' tours which visited over 40 cities in the southeast during October 2004.
  • Not a day goes by that I don't appreciate all that you do for peace in Latin America. And the people benefiting most from your hard earned dollars-the poor, the disadvantaged, the oppressed-understand this and echo my sentiment as well.
  • So today, I request that you please stand with us for peace. Witness for Peace Southeast is the reason these voices of peace and justice are heard. Dozens of our delegates return to the U.S. with first-hand knowledge, human stories and passion to influence policy makers. Your support enables this compelling witness on both sides of the border. Thank you. Gracias."
