Oaxaca, Mexico, May 19-31, 2012
Witness for Peace Southeast is sponsoring a "Roots of Migration" delegation to Mexico May 19-31. We need help with recruitment. We will visit both Oaxaca and Alabama to protest the very negative anti-immigration laws there. Could each of you try to recruit one or two people? We would like to send a full delegation of at least 15 people. Let us know if you have people who might be interested in joining the delegation. Registration closes on April 15. We count on your help.

COLOMBIA Jan. 2012
Read Gail Phares's report on the January 17-27, 2012, Colombia delegation.
January 17-27, 2012 Gail Phares led a delegation to Colombia to stand in solidarity with the people of Colombia and learn how the US War on Drugs impacts the People of Colombia. As you know the War on Drugs has devastated people here in the United States imprisoning more than 500,000 non-violent people for drug charges. This same war on drugs has displaced over 4 million people in Colombia. How US drug policy is tearing apart our brothers and sisters in Colombia. It is long past time to say basta! Stop!

Nicaraguan is a beautiful country and the people are warm and welcoming. This delegation focuses on the economic reality in Nicaragua and the impact of trade and other economic policies on the Nicaraguan people.
The teens will have a unique opportunity to meet with community leaders, visit schools and health centers and visit the beautiful lakes and mountains of Nicaragua. They will experience the reality of Central American rural living, work on a community project, live with a Nicaraguan family and receive training in how to be a teenager for social change. They will have a great time on this trip.
It is not difficult to raise the needed funds for this delegation. Gail Phares will send them a model fund raising letter. If the teen sends it out to 50 people who know you, they can easily raise the money. Let Gail know whether you have friends from your church or school who are interested in this exciting delegation to Nicaragua.
